The study analyses how social interaction among peers affects self-regulation processes when preschool and elementary school children work in construction tasks using geometric blocks. Social relationships are examined in terms of a) interactive settings defined as molar units of analysis; b) self-regulation processes focussing on verbal and manipulative activities defined as molecular units of analysis. Factor analysis (Correspondence test) allowed us to establish relationships between these two kinds of units. Results show significant differences between interactive settings and selfregulation related to task difficulty and childrens age.
