La evolución del ideal de la Escuela Común en el pensamiento de R. Pring. Sobre la compatibilidad de la democracia con la pluralidad de centros

Resumen

El protagonismo asumido por John Dewey en la implantación y desarrollo del ideal de la Escuela Común es indiscutible. En este artículo se examinará su influencia en el pensamiento de Richard Pring y la evolución del pensamiento de Pring hacia su propuesta actual: un Common School System en el que también tengan cabida, junto a la Escuela Común, algunas Escuelas Diferentes. Se analizan las razones de esa evolución por considerarlo un tema de gran relevancia en el contexto educativo actual, pues el debate generado sobre esta cuestión ha excedido los límites geográficos del Reino Unido, y se está extendiendo a otros países democráticos europeos, entre ellos, a España.
