Resumen

In order to improve the quality of education, it is essential to focus efforts on those aspects of each subject that are most difficult for students. This requires identifying these more difficult elements according to objective data, since the perception of the teachers does not always coincide with the results. These analyses are particularly relevant in the case of distance teaching, where teachers have a less direct perception of the difficulties of the students. Our hypothesis is that, based on the data collected in previous courses, it is possible to carry out analyses that indicate the difficulty of the different topics of a subject. We have considered a subject taught in the second year of the degrees of Computer Science of the UNED. The subject has an advanced level that requires prior knowledge of mathematics and programming. Specifically, it refers to advanced data structures and algorithmic schemes, which represent general principles to approach a problem. Our objective is to design a general methodology, valid for others subjects and disciplines, which helps to identify the most difficult topics and thus, devoting a greater effort to improve their teaching.
