A 50 años del nacimiento del concepto ‘gentrificación’. La mirada anglosajona

Resumen

El objetivo principal de este artículo será establecer un diálogo con los debates contemporáneos acerca de la gentrificación producidos en el mundo anglosajón, a través de cuatro características que consideramos fundamentales para comprender este fenómeno: en primer lugar, la reinversión de capital por parte de gobiernos, entidades financieras o promotores inmobiliarios, con la consecuente reproducción y acumulación de capital; en segundo lugar, la incorporación de una población con mayor capital económico y cultural; en tercer lugar, los consiguientes cambios en el espacio urbano o en su aprovechamiento como recurso, mediante diversos dispositivos que generarán transformaciones sociales y económicas nítidas; y finalmente, como efecto negativo de este proceso, contrario al derecho a la vivienda y la ciudad, el desplazamiento directo o indirecto de la población de bajos ingresos. Así, lo que presentamos es una aproximación epistemológica al controvertido concepto de gentrificación.
