Doctor by the Universidad Complutense de Madrid with the thesis Procesador paralelo de Prolog sobre una arquitectura de memoria distribuida 1994. Supervised by Dr. José Jaime Ruz Ortiz.

Lourdes Araujo a full professor at UNED since 2012. She obtained her PhD in Computer Science at the Complutense University of Madrid (1994). She developed her work at that University until 2006, when moved to the Universidad Nacional de Educación a Distancia, and joined the Natural Language Processing and Information Retrieval research group. Her recent research has focused on different problems related to language processing and especially on the application of these techniques to the biomedical domain. In this field she collaborate with different institutions, having agreements with the Hospital Clínico San Carlos de Madrid (HCSC), and the Consejería de Sanidad de la Comunidad de Madrid. She also cooperates with the Instituto de Salud Carlos III (ISCIII). In collaboration with these institutions she addresses problems of great social relevance such as the characterization of rare diseases and the improvement of their registration in the Community of Madrid. With the psychiatry service of the HCSC she investigate the early detection of problems related to mental health such as suicide, self-injury, social isolation, etc. With the ISCIII she work on the identification of comorbidity in problems such as AIDS. She has 5 research periods approved. She has published more than 100 publications .She has supervised 6 PhD theses and participated in more than 20 research projects being PI in 7 of them. She was coordinator of the degree in Information Technology Engineering from 2009 to 2012. She was Deputy Director at the E.T.S.I Informática de la UNED from 2013 to 2017. She has been head of the Department of Computer Languages and Systems of the UNED from 2017 to 2021. She has been a member of ANECA Titular Commission for access to the Corps of University Professors in the area of Engineering and Architecture from 2011 to 2014. She has been official collaborator of the State Research Agency from 2019 to 2022.
