José A. Vigara Zafra is a PhD in Art History and is assistant professor at the UNED, where he has carried out his teaching and research since July 2007. He studied at the University of Córdoba and at the UNED in Madrid under the supervision of Professor Antonio Urquízar Herrera, and he was awarded the title of doctor with a thesis entitled Arte y cultura nobiliaria en la Casa de Fernán Núñez (1700–1850) [Art and nobiliary culture in the House of Fernán Núñez (1700–1850)]. He was a visiting researcher at the Centre de Recherches Historiques de l’École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales de París, under the supervision of Professor Bernard Vincent in 2009 and 2010. His interests lean towards the relations between the art world and nobiliary society in the early modern age, collecting and the functions of works of art, and the figure of the artist in the transition from the early to the late modern period.
